Michal Barinka (born June 12, 1984 in Vyškov , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Kometa Brno in the Czech extra league since September 2017 .

Career

Michal Barinka began his career as a hockey player in the youth of HC České Budějovice , for whose professional team he was active in the Czech extra league from 2001 to 2003 . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 in the second round as a total of 59th player by the Chicago Blackhawks , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2003/04 season . In the three seasons in which the defender was in the organization of the Chicago Blackhawks under contract, however, he played mainly for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Norfolk Admirals .

In the summer of 2006, the left shooter from Chicago was given to the Ottawa Senators , for which he was not used in the following season. After 17 games for their AHL farm team, he returned to his Czech homeland, where he was signed by HC Vítkovice Steel , for whom he played until January 2011. He also ran in the playoffs of the 2006-07 season in 17 playoff games in which he gave three templates for SC Bern in the Swiss National League A in. With the Bernese he lost in the finals to HC Davos in the best-of-seven series 3: 4. The 2010/11 season ended the Czech with Lokomotive Yaroslavl in the Continental Hockey League , for which the left-shooter was on the ice in 16 KHL games and scored eight points. In June 2011 Barinka received a contract for the 2011/12 season with Friborg-Gottéron .

Between 2012 and 2014 Barinka played again for HC Vítkovice before moving to HC Sparta Prague for three years .

Barinka has been under contract with HC Kometa Brno since September 2017 and won the Czech championship with them in April 2018.

International

For the Czech Republic , Barinka took part in the U18 World Junior Championship in 2002 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2004 . He was also in the Czech squad for the 2009 World Cup .
