Andreas Zelinka
Andreas Zelinka (born February 23, 1802 in Wischau , Moravia , † November 21, 1868 in Vienna ) was Mayor of Vienna from 1861 to 1868 .
Life
Andreas Zelinka attended the grammar school and Philosophicum in Brno. From 1821 to 1825, he studied law at the University of Vienna, in 1829 he graduated as Dr. jur. From 1831 Andreas Zelinka was a medical commissioner, then worked as a lawyer. In 1848 he was elected to the Vienna City Council, of which he became Vice President in 1849. In 1850 he received the Franz Joseph Order . From 1861 to 1868 he was mayor of Vienna , from 1862 also a member of the Lower Austria state parliament and from 1867 a member of the manor house . During his time the planning of the first Viennese spring water pipeline , the Danube regulation and the Viennese central cemetery fell. The Ringstrasse was partially opened in 1865 . On August 23, 1863, he opened the Kaiser birthday party, the first public festival in Vienna's Prater .
He spent all of his annual salary of 12,000 guilders on alms and donations. He was affectionately known as Papa Zelinka by the Viennese .
In 1869, the Zelinkagasse in Vienna's Innere Stadt (1st district) was named after him. His grave is at the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 14A, number 16).
A monument designed by the sculptor Franz Pönninger in the form of a classicist bronze bust was erected in his honor in Vienna's city park .
