Josef Karl Strobach (born December 23, 1852 in Wernstadt , Bohemia , † May 11, 1905 in Vienna ) was an Austrian bookseller and Christian social politician.

Josef Strobach was born on December 23, 1852 in Wernstadt as the illegitimate son of Maria Anna Strobach, who in turn was an illegitimate child.

He originally worked for the post office in Prague and came to Vienna in 1872, where he joined the Christian Social Movement. After buying a house, he became president of the Central Association of Viennese Homeowners and chairman of the United Christians' electoral association in Margareten .

After Strobach had already moved into the Vienna City Council in 1893 and was a city councilor from 1895, he was elected Mayor of Vienna in 1896 . Strobach was considered Karl Lueger's "man for the rough" and was a member of the anti-Semitic citizens' club . After he had been replaced as mayor by Lueger in 1897, he took over the post of Vice Mayor and Deputy Land Marshal of Lower Austria . From 1896 to 1905 he was a member of the state parliament of Lower Austria , from 1897 to 1905 a member of the Reichsrat .

His grave of honor is in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 32 A, number 22). In 1906 the Strobachgasse in Vienna- Margareten (5th district) was named after him.
