Leo Rwabwogo

Leo Rwabwogo (born June 3, 1949 in Tororo , † January 14, 2009 in Rugongo, Kabarole District ) was a Ugandan boxer and Olympic medalist .

At the African Championships in 1968 Rwabwogo won the gold medal in the flyweight (-51 kg). In the same year he won the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City after victories over Sang-Byung Seo, South Korea (5: 0), David Vasquez, USA (3: 2), and Tibor Badari, Hungary (3: 2), and a semi-final defeat against Artur Olech , Poland (3: 2), the bronze medal.

1970 Rwabwogo won the silver medal of the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh . At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , Rwabwogo achieved after victories over Jorge Acuña , Uruguay (5: 0), Maurice O'Sullivan , United Kingdom (TKO 1st), Orn-Chim Chawalit , Thailand (4: 1), Neil McLaughlin , Ireland (TKO 3rd), and Douglas Rodríguez , Cuba (3-2), the final. In this he faced the Bulgarian Georgi Kostadinow , to whom he lost 5-0 referee votes. Rwadwogo is the only Ugandan who could win more than one Olympic medal.
