Julius von Newald (born April 11, 1824 in Neu-Titschein , Moravia , † August 17, 1897 in Vienna ) was an Austrian lawyer and mayor of Vienna .

Live and act

Julius von Newald was a member of the Vienna City Council from 1864, in 1868 he became 2nd and in 1869 1st deputy mayor. In 1878 he was elected mayor of Vienna. Political concerns of Newald were the building regulations, the Viennese Danube regulation , the construction of the first Viennese spring water pipeline and the new building of the Viennese town hall . He resigned as Mayor of Vienna in 1882 after the fire in the Ringtheater , although it can be proven that he was not to blame for the disaster. From 1878 to 1883 he was also a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament .

In 1898, Newaldgasse in Vienna- Alsergrund (9th district) was named after him.
