The Nepeta racemosa ( Nepeta racemosa ) is a plant from the family of the mint (Lamiaceae). The homeland of the grape catnip is western Asia. In Central Europe, their varieties are used as ornamental plants in gardens. The varieties bloom from April to October.

description

The herbaceous plant , which grows like a cushion, reaches heights of about 15 to 25 centimeters and can grow both lying down and ascending. The five-fold and zygomorphic flower is arranged in a terminal spike. The blue crown becomes about 9 to 13 mm long. The lower lip of this species has no dark blue points. The corolla tube towers above the chalice.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18 or 36.

Occurrence

Nepeta racemosa occurs from eastern Turkey to northwestern Iran.

Systematics

One can distinguish the following subspecies:

  • Nepeta racemosa subsp. crassifolia (Boiss. & Buhse) ALBudantsev (Syn .: Nepeta crassifolia Boiss. & Buhse ): It occurs in Iran.
  • Nepeta racemosa subsp. haussknechtii (Bornm.) ALBudantsev (Syn .: Nepeta haussknechtii Bornm. ): It occurs in Iraq, Iran and Transcaucasia.
  • Nepeta racemosa subsp. racemosa : It occurs from eastern Turkey to northwestern Iran.

Synonyms

Nepeta mussinii Spreng is a synonym . ex Henckel , which is why the species is also called Mussin's catnip.
