The castle Krásný Dvůr (German Schönhof ) is located in the municipality of Krásný Dvůr in okres Louny , Czech Republic.

history

The original Renaissance style mansion was built in the second half of the 16th century. In 1649, Count Hermann Czernin von Chudenitz acquired - in addition to numerous other properties - the Schönhof Palace. This was renewed from 1683 according to designs by Francesco Ceresolla and from 1720 to 1724 in the Baroque style by the architect Franz Maximilian Kaňkachanged and extended by two side wings. The client was Count Franz Josef, who used the castle as a hunting seat. The three-winged castle is connected to lower farm buildings, which together with the gate form the area of the courtyard. From 1727 a formal baroque garden was added, for which the garden architects Matěj Ivan Ledsebe and Jakub Halířek changed the terrain. In 1735 a fig house and a riding arena were added and in 1736 three avenues were planted that lead from the castle into the landscape.

1783–1793 Count Johann Rudolf Czernin von Chudenitz had the castle chapel expanded, two new staircases added and the original game reserve converted into an English park with graceful ornamental buildings, a 96 hectare landscape park, the first English garden in Bohemia. The interior, which was also remodeled at the end of the 18th century, consists of period furniture and collections of paintings and porcelain. The castle remained in the possession of Counts Czernin von und zu Chudenitz until 1945 .
