Okres Ústí nad Labem (German: District Aussig ) is the smallest district in the Ústecký kraj region in the Czech Republic. The district is located in northern Bohemia between the Eastern Ore Mountains , Bohemian Switzerland and the Bohemian Central Mountains . The Okresy were roughly comparable to the rural districts in Germany and were dissolved as local authorities on December 31, 2002.
On 404 km², 119,407 inhabitants live in 23 municipalities with 103 districts, three of which are cities (Ústí nad Labem, Chabařovice and Trmice) (as of January 1, 2019). The population density is the fourth largest in the Czech Republic. 31% of the area is covered by forests, 45% is used for agriculture.
The economic development is closely related to the development of the district and district town of Ústí nad Labem (Aussig on the Elbe) . The key sectors are the chemical industry, energy industry and transport.
Historic buildings and landmarks
- The time of the Hussite Wars and the Battle of Aussig in 1426 are remembered in Běháně .
- In Přestanov (Priesten) Stradov (Straden) Chlumec (Kulm) and Varvažov (Arbesau) battles were against Napoleon Bonaparte in 1813 instead.
- Krásné Březno Castle (Schönpriesen)
- In Stadice , the Královské pole (Königsfeld) commemorates the Bohemian ruling family of the Přemyslids .
- Ruins of Střekov (Schreckenstein)
- The churches in Svádov (Schwaden) and Valtířov (Waltire) with sculptures by stonemasons from Saxony are reminiscent of the Renaissance era .
- Neo-Gothic castle in Trmice (Türmitz)
- The Dubice church in Dubice ( Řehlovice municipality ) offers a panoramic view of the Elbe valley.
- In Ústí nad Labem (Aussig) you can visit the Cathedral of the Assumption (1318), Church of St. Vojtěch with the Dominican monastery (1715–1730),
as well as the city theater with neoclassical parts (1908-09).
