Water sports center Hamburg-Allermöhe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The water sports center Hamburg-Allermöhe is a facility built into the confluence of the Dove Elbe and Gose Elbe rivers for rowing and canoeing in Hamburg . It has a 2,000 meter long regatta course that is suitable for international competitions.

On the edge of the regatta course at Allermöher Deich 34 is the state performance center for rowing and canoe racing, which is assigned to the Hamburg-Kiel Olympic base .

The route has already hosted German championships in rowing , canoe racing and canoe polo several times . The Nations Cup , the then unofficial U23 world rowing championships, was also held here in 1999 . For 2011, the rowers successfully competed for a World Cup regatta.

The route was discussed as part of Hamburg's application for the 2012 Summer Olympics as the venue for the rowing and canoeing competitions.

location

The regatta course is located around 10 km southeast of downtown Hamburg in the Vier- und Marschlanden in the Hamburg district of Bergedorf in the districts of Allermöhe , Tatenberg and Reitbrook . With the construction of the facility from the end of the 1960s, the largely natural confluence of the Gose Elbe and Dove Elbe was extensively redesigned. In the mid-1980s, a state performance center (LLZ) for rowing and canoe racing was established. The LLZ initially consisted of a boat hall and main building with changing rooms and offices for the rowing and canoeing associations. The buildings have expanded significantly over time.

The track system was set up in the early 1980s in such a way that both 6 rowing lanes and 9 canoe lanes can be laid out. There are fixed starting pontoons at 2000 m. At 1000 m, 500 m and 200 m, both a starting bridge and individual starting pontoons can be laid out. Originally, a four-storey wooden target tower was built on the southern bank opposite the LLZ, but has since been replaced by a new building on the northern bank. A pedestrian bridge with a sliding lock, which is only accessible during the events, connects the two sides of the river.

In terms of traffic, the regatta course is located directly at the Hamburg-Allermöhe motorway exit of federal motorway 25 . The performance center is located 2,300 m from the Mittlerer Landweg S-Bahn station . There are large areas available around the regatta site as a saddle place, tent site and parking lot.

History of the plant

Landscape planning report as the basis for the expansion of the regatta course (1966)

1966

On December 20, 1966, the Hamburger Abendblatt headlined "New Regatta Course for Hamburg - Large Plan Sport-Alster in Southeast Hamburg". A representative, modern regatta course with a leisure and recreation center is to be built within 10 years. The redesign of Gose and Dove Elbe is to be carried out by removing the shallow gravel with suction dredgers .

1967

In the spring of 1967 the Hamburg Senate deals with the construction of the sports and recreation center. Interior Senator Heinz Ruhnau sees the last chance to create a representative facility for Hamburg's water sports and Mayor Herbert Weichmann was particularly impressed by the plan for the local recreation center, as new industrial areas could be developed in this way. On April 27, 1967, Interior Senator Heinz Ruhnau inspected the construction work on a boat trip. The rowing clubs would like to leave their clubhouses on the Alster and only relocate the racing operations. In addition to the regatta course, a marina is to be built on the Dove Elbe at the suggestion of the ADAC .

1968

The redesign of the river landscape is in full swing. The rowers are expected to move from the Alster to the Dove Elbe in 1972/73. The actual expansion costs, which are estimated at two and a half to nine million German marks , are unclear .

1982

The Hamburger Abendblatt wrote on April 8, 1982: Many citizens are protesting against the plans for water sports. The residents fear that the flow of visitors will disturb the peace.

1985

In July, the Eichkranz races (B championships of the German Rowing Association) were held in Hamburg for the first time in 49 years.

1986

A boathouse with regatta office was built for 1.6 million German marks in a twelve-month construction period; Meeting and changing rooms built. The expansion of the facilities on the regatta course cost 400,000 German marks. The first target tower on the south bank was financed by the Albingia insurance company (Albingia tower).

Old (approx. 1986) and new target tower (2010)

2009/2010

From October 2009 the regatta course will be converted to the new 8-lane system for rowers. To do this, the route is swiveled 3 ° northwards from the destination, so the destination continues to the LLZ side. To the south of the eighth runway there is an additional runway for camera catamarans. There will still be a nine-lane system for canoeing. These nine lanes can be used instead of rowing lanes 1 to 6.

A new target tower was erected on the premises of the LLZ to make the system into a more compact unit.

criticism

At the end of the 1980s, the further expansion of the facilities for the regatta course and the Dove Elbe water park around Eichbaumsee led to considerable criticism from the surrounding residents, farmers and nature conservation associations (merged to form the Dove Elbe water park citizens' initiative), which in particular increased the number of visitors and events caused by bathers as well as the development and removal of valuable habitats.

This resulted in a significantly smaller footbridge over the Dove Elbe between the performance center and the target tower, which can only be closed by a movable middle segment during the regatta events. The intended development and structural facilities (path and road construction, bridge construction over the Gose Elbe, parking spaces, larger grandstands, camping site) south of the regatta course were not used.

When the regatta course was rebuilt in 2009/2010, there were some objections from the neighboring sailing clubs and a canoe rental company, who felt that their use of the waterway was restricted.
