David Clark (rower)

David Robert Clark (born November 17, 1959 in St. Louis ) is a retired rower from the United States . He was third in the world championship in 1981 with the eighth and second in 1984 with the four without a helmsman .

Career

The 1.93 m tall David Clark studied at Cornell University , where he graduated in 1982. With the eighth of Cornell University, he won the championship of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association in 1981 and 1982 .

At the 1981 World Championships in Munich, the eighth from the Soviet Union won ahead of the British and the eighth from the United States in the line-up of Daniel Lyons , John Zevenbergen , Thomas Kiefer , James McDougall , John Phinney , David Clark, Charles Clapp , Matthew Labine and Steuermann Seth Bauer . The boat from the USA was one and a half seconds behind the British and over four seconds ahead of the fourth-placed boat from the GDR. In 1983, the eighth finished seventh at the 1983 World Championships in Duisburg.

For the Olympic Games in Los Angeles , a four-man without a helmsman was nominated by the host association, which consisted of David Clark, Jon Smith , Philip Stekl and Alan Forney . A total of ten boats competed. The boats from New Zealand and the United States made it directly to the finals as preliminary winners, with four other boats qualifying via the hope runs. In the final, the New Zealanders won with over two and a half seconds ahead of the four from the United States, one and a half seconds behind the Danes won the bronze medal.
