Sofia Corban , until 1981 Sofia Banovici , (born August 1, 1956 in Drăgăneşti-Vlaşca , Teleorman district ) is a former Romanian rower .

The 1.80 m tall Banovici took sixth place in the double foursome at the 1978 World Championships . The following year, Maria Micșa , Aneta Mihaly , Sofia Banovici, Veronica Juganaru and helmsman Elena Giurcă won the bronze medal at the 1979 World Championships . With Mariana Zaharia for Juganaru, the Romanian quadruple finished fourth at the 1980 Olympic Games .

In 1981 Aneta Mihaly, Valeria Roşca , Sofia Banovici, Olga Bularda and helmsman Ecaterina Oancia formed the Romanian double foursome , which took third place behind the boats from the Soviet Union and the GDR at the World Championships . 1982 won the resettled double fours with Maria Micşa-Makoviciuc, Maricica Țăran , Elisabeta Lipă , the meanwhile married Sofia Corban and Ecaterina Oancia also bronze behind the USSR and the GDR. At the world championships in 1983 , the Soviet crew won again in front of the GDR; behind the Bulgarians, the Romanian double quad finished fourth. Because of the Olympic boycott , the three medal winners from 1983 were absent from the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Maricica Țăran, Anișoara Sorohan , Ioana Badea , Sofia Corban and Ecaterina Oancia won the Olympic final by one second ahead of the host country's boat.
