Jutta Behrendt

Jutta Behrendt (* 15. November 1960 in Berlin as Jutta Hampe ) is a former rower from the GDR . Behrendt was five times world champion in various boat classes between 1983 and 1989, her greatest success was the Olympic victory in one in 1988. Behrendt was able to win nine GDR championship titles as well as numerous national medals in the course of her career.

Career

Behrendt won her first championship medal in 1979 when she won bronze in a double scull with Kerstin Kirst . In 1980 she was GDR single champion for the first time, but missed the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow because they had already taken place before. In 1981 she was then a member of the GDR national team for the first time, together with Kirst she became vice world champion in double sculls. In 1982 she became GDR champion in double fours with Heidi Westphal , Cornelia Linse , Jutta Ploch and taxwoman Elke Rost and again achieved the silver medal at the world championships with the same cast .

In 1983 she won the GDR championships in single for the second time, at the world championships in Duisburg she also competed in this boat class and became world champion for the first time. Since the GDR boycotted the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984 , she was unable to participate as the reigning world champion.

In 1985 she became GDR and world champion in the first uncontrolled quad scull with Kristina Mundt , Birgit Peter and Ramona Balthasar . The following year she won championship medals for the first time in all three skull boat classes, but could not win a title. Nevertheless, she represented the GDR in a single at the World Championships in Nottingham , where she repeated her success from 1983 and became world champion.

In 1987 she won with Jana Sorgers , Birgit Peter and Kerstin Pieloth at both the GDR and the world championships in the double sculls. In 1988 Behrendt was able to take part in the Olympic Games for the first time in Seoul . After winning the GDR championships in this boat class, she started in the single and became Olympic champion.

In 1989 Behrendt was third in the GDR championships in one. She won the double fours with Jana Thieme , Sybille Schmidt and Kathrin Boron , this team also started at the World Championships in Bled . There they dominated the race and became world champions. In 1990 Behrendt was GDR champion in the single for the last time, then she ended her career.

From 1990 Jutta Behrendt belonged to the NOK of the GDR . After reunification , it belonged to the NOK of Germany until 1997. In 1995 Jutta Behrendt emigrated to Norway to become national rowing coach.
