Gisela Medefindt (born March 16, 1957 in Burg near Magdeburg ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic .

Medefindt from SC Berlin-Grünau won the GDR championship in the double scull in 1974 and was second in the double scull with Rita Schmidt-Köppen . At the rowing world championships in 1974 Schmidt-Köppen and Medefindt started in double sculls and finished third. In 1975 the two came third at the GDR championships, with their club mates Petra Boesler and Sabine Jahn winning the title and later taking silver at the World Cup. In 1976 Gisela Medefindt won the GDR championships in singles and together with Petra Donner in doubles, but the rowers nominated for the Olympic Games in Montreal were not at the start in the GDR championships. In 1977 Medefindt won the GDR championship in double fours; In 1978 three medals followed: gold in a double scull, silver in a single and bronze in a double scull.

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , the GDR double scull competed in the preliminary run with Jutta Ploch , Gisela Medefindt, Sybille Reinhardt , Roswietha Zobelt and taxwoman Liane Buhr , while Jutta Lau was not used. Since there were only seven boats at the start, it was enough for the final qualification to be among the best six boats: The GDR's double-scull clocked the third-best time. Jutta Lau returned to the boat for the reunion and the final, as Gisela Medefindt was unable to participate due to an injury. In the final, the boat from the GDR won just ahead of the boat from the USSR. At later Olympic Games, Gisela Medefindt would also have been honored with a gold medal for her preliminary work, but this regulation was not yet in force in 1980.
