Petra Boesler

Petra Boesler (born September 19, 1955 in Berlin , after marriage to Petra Wach ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic . In 1976 she was in the double sculls Olympic silver medalist.

The rower from SC Berlin-Grünau won the GDR championship in double sculls in 1975 together with Sabine Jahn . At the World Championships in Nottingham, the boat took second place behind the Soviet two. Third place went to the Bulgarians Swetla Ozetowa and Sdrawka Jordanowa , who won the gold medal at the 1976 Olympic Games ahead of Jahn and Boesler. In 1977 Jahn, now called Sabine Gust, and Boesler got into the double fours . Together with Viola Kowalschek , Gisela Medefindt and helmsman Elke Rost , the boat won the GDR championship. Before the World Cup in Amsterdam, Medefindt left the boat and was replaced by Sybille Tietze ; Gust, Boesler, Kowalschek, Tietze and Rost won the world championship. In 1978 Petra Boesler and Gisela Medefindt won the GDR championship in double sculls. In 1976 Petra Boesler was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

In 1980 Petra Boesler ended her sporting career. After marrying the national volleyball player Hartmut Wach , she moved from Berlin to Schwerin. There she works as a physiotherapist and rows in the Masters classes for the Schwerin RG.

Petra's aunt Renate Boesler won four European championship titles in rowing in the 1960s and is married to the Olympic champion Wolfgang Gunkel , Petra's sister Martina Boesler became the 1980 Olympic rowing champion.
