Carola Hornig

Carola Hornig (born April 30, 1962 in Staffelde , today part of Stendal , as Carola Miseler ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic . In 1988 she won the Olympics in a four-man with a helmsman .

Carola Miseler from SC Berlin-Grünau won the 1979 Junior World Championships in a foursome. In 1982 she first appeared in the rowing world championships in the adult class and finished third with eighth . The following year, she went from eight to four with Iris Rudolph , Claudia Noack and Sigrid Anders , and the boat won the title at the World Championships in Duisburg together with helmswoman Carola Richter . In 1984 she won the GDR championships in both the four and eight, at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles she could not take part because of the Olympic boycott.

From 1985 she started as Carola Hornig after her marriage. In both 1985 and 1986 she won silver in eighth at the World Championships. In 1987 she sat in the newly formed four-wheeler with helmswoman, which was made up of rowers from Berlin and Leipzig. Birte Siech , Martina Walther , Gerlinde Doberschütz , Carola Hornig and helmsman Sylvia Müller won the silver medal behind the Romanian boat at the 1987 World Championships in Copenhagen. At the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, the five rowers won gold in front of the boats from China and Romania.

In addition to her Olympic gold medal and her five world championship medals, Carola Hornig won seven GDR championship titles from 1983 to 1988. For her Olympic victory in 1988 she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold. She had already received this medal in 1984. In 1986 she was honored with the Star of Friendship of Nations in silver.
