Gerald Abraham

Gerald Ernest Heal Abraham (born March 9, 1904 in Newport , † March 18, 1988 in Midhurst ) was an English musicologist.

Apart from his piano lessons, Abraham was a musical self-taught. From 1935 to 1947 he worked for the BBC , initially as co-editor of the Radio Times . From 1939 he was deputy editor of the listener and from 1942 head of the record department of the BBC. In 1947, Abraham received an appointment as a music professor at Liverpool University . He ended this activity in 1962. From 1962 to 1967 he worked again for the BBC.

Gerald E. Abraham was editor of Volumes III and IV (1968) of The New Oxford History of Music . In 1972 he was elected a member ( Fellow ) of the British Academy .
