Giusto Recanati

Giusto da Camerino Recanati OFMCap (originally Vincenzo Benedetto Giuseppe Recanati ; * August 9, 1789 in Camerino as Vincenzo Benedetto Giuseppe Recanati ; † November 17, 1861 in Rome ) was an Italian religious and cardinal .

Life

He studied at the seminary of Camerino and entered the Capuchin order on December 8, 1803 in the convent of Cingoli with the religious name Giusto da Camerino . He was ordained priest on February 22nd, 1812. After the French occupation of the Papal States, Giusto Recanati belonged to the Convent of Fabriano and taught philosophy and theology at the Convent of Iesi for many years. On September 30, 1843, he became president of the Capuchin Missionary College in Rome. From November 12, 1843 he was consultor of the Congregation for Bishops and Regulars , from June 8, 1844, consultor of the Congregation of the Propaganda Fide and from March 26, 1847 of the Congregation of the Inquisition .

On July 3, 1848, Giusto Recanati was appointed titular bishop of Tripoli in Phenicia . He was ordained bishop on July 9 of the same year by Cardinal Antonio Francesco Orioli ; Archbishops Girolamo d'Andrea and Domenico Lucciardi were co-consecrators . On August 22, 1848, Giusto Recanati was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Senigallia . His appointment as papal assistant to the throne took place on January 13, 1852.

Pope Pius IX raised him in the consistory of March 7, 1853 to cardinal priest , the cardinal hat and the titular church Santi XII Apostoli received Giusto Recanati on March 10 of the same year.

Eight years later Cardinal Recanati died in Rome and was after the funeral in his titular church on November 21, 1861, at which Pope Pius IX. took part, buried in the Capuchin Church of Santissima Concezione in Rome according to his will .
