Domenico Lucciardi (born December 9, 1796 in Sarzana , † March 13, 1864 in Senigallia ) was an Italian clergyman, bishop of Senigallia and cardinal .

Life

Domenico Lucciardi was the son of Bartolomeo Lucciardi and Marianna Samanego, he received the sacrament of Confirmation on September 17, 1807 . He completed his studies on August 1, 1819 with a doctorate in both rights. On July 30, 1820 he was ordained priest for the diocese of Rome and entered the service of the Roman Curia . In 1826 he became an auditor at the Nunciature in Vienna. Later appointed House Prelate of His Holiness and Apostolic Protonotary , he was appointed Apostolic Delegate in Camerino on December 6, 1832 . He was then twice an Apostolic Delegate in Bologna . In 1834 he was extraordinary pro-commissioner of the "Four Legations" which included: Bologna with Ferrara and Romagna ; Urbino including brands ; Perugia and all of Umbria ; and finally Velletri with southern Lazio . From December 1834 to 1836 he was Pro-Legate in Ravenna and from July 1836 to 1839 Apostolic Delegate in Spoleto . He was then 1839-1842 Apostolic Delegate in Ancona and then 1842-1845 President of the District of Rome. From October 2, 1846 to 1851, he was secretary of the Congregation for Bishops and Regulars .

On December 21, 1846 he was appointed titular archbishop of Damascus . On December 22, 1846 he became papal assistant to the throne . He was ordained bishop on December 27 of the same year in the church of Santissima Trinità a Montecitorio in Rome by Cardinal Pietro Ostini , co- consecrators were the titular archbishops Giovanni Brunelli and Giovanni Domenico Stefanelli . On April 10, 1851, he was named Titular Latin Patriarch of Constantinople . From September 5, 1851 until his death he was Bishop of Senigallia with the personal title of Archbishop.

Pope Pius IX elevated Lucciardi to cardinal priest on March 15, 1852 and awarded him three days later the cardinal's hat and the titular church of San Clemente .

He died in Senigallia and was buried in the local cathedral .
