Giovanni Domenico Stefanelli OP (originally Biagio Stefanelli ; born June 15, 1779 in Vico Pancellorum , Bagni di Lucca , † February 5, 1852 in Rome ) was an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman and archbishop of Lucca .

Life

When he entered the Dominican order, he took on the religious name Giovanni Domenico , and the form of the name Giovan Domenico also appears. The ordination received Giovanni Domenico Stefanelli on April 3, 1802. He was born on August 6, 1817 Master of Divinity. For the next 19 years he was inquisitor of the city of Spoleto until he was appointed Archbishop of Lucca on July 11, 1836.

He received his episcopal ordination on July 25, 1836, Cardinal Giacomo Luigi Brignole ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops Antonio Luigi Piatti , Vice-Lord of Rome, and Archbishop Giuseppe Maria Vespignani . On August 9, 1836 Giovanni Domenico Stefanelli was appointed Papal Assistant to the Throne .

When it came to a pastor election by the people of the parish in Lammari , Giovanni Domenico Stefanelli left the diocese on March 11th of the same year because he had rejected the candidate due to the resulting conflict . On December 18, 1844 he renounced the Archdiocese of Lucca and was on January 20, 1845 by Pope Gregory XVI. appointed titular archbishop of Traianopolis in Rhodope . He retired to the Dominican convent of Santa Maria sopra Minerva . On April 28, 1846, he was appointed consultor of the Congregation Propaganda Fide .
