Irina Dorneanu (born March 3, 1990 in Suceava , Romania ) is a Romanian rower . She is a four-time European champion and was an Olympian for Romania.

Career

Dorneanu began rowing in 2005. Just two years later she took part in the junior world championships for the first time and finished 10th in the quadruple sculls . At the Junior World Championships in 2008 , she managed to jump into the more strongly occupied junior eighth , with which she was able to win a silver medal. After growing out of the junior age, Dorneanu started two years in the U23 age group and won a bronze medal in the four-four. At the same time, she was able to gain first experience in the open age group in this boat class by taking part in European championships and world championships. Starting in 2011, she became a regular in the Romanian women's eighth, with whom she won four European championships in a row until 2014. In this boat class also took part in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where the team took fourth place.

Dorneanu was also nominated in the women's eight for the 2016 Summer Olympics . A few days before the start of the Olympic regatta, however, she was tested positive for the doping agent Meldonium and replaced by Iuliana Popa .

Dorneanu starts for the Iași CSM club . At a height of 1.86 m, her competition weight is around 84 kg.
