Maria Maunder

Maria Maunder (born March 19, 1972 in St. John's , Newfoundland and Labrador ) is a former Canadian rower who won an Olympic silver medal in 1996.

Maunder had been a swimmer for ten years before starting her rowing career. However, her international breakthrough came as a rower. Her first international appearance was at the 1994 Commonwealth Regatta, when she won the title with the eighth . In the same year she finished seventh in the world championships with eighth and eighth in the four without a helmsman . At the 1995 World Championships , Maunder reached the A final twice. Together with Kelly Mahon , she finished fifth in the two without a helmsman , with eight she reached sixth place. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , the Canadian eighth won the silver medal behind the Romanians.

In 1997 Maunder reached sixth place at the World Championships with the Canadian double scull . In 1998 in Cologne she finished eleventh in a double scull with Theresa Luke .
