Jaap van Lagen
Jaap van Lagen (born December 22, 1976 in Ede ) is a Dutch racing driver .
Career
Van Lagen started his motorsport career in 1999 in the Dutch Citroën Saxo Cup and immediately won the runner-up. In 2000 he moved into the single-seater racing and was ninth in the Benelux Formula Ford and tenth in the Dutch Formula Ford. In 2001, he remained in the Benelux Formula Ford and won the league title, though he could only decide one of twelve races for themselves. A year later he was able to defend the championship, this time with seven wins, and also secured the title of the Dutch Formula Ford. He also took part in two races in the German Formula 3 championship . In 2003 he competed in the German Formula Volkswagen and won 8 out of 14 races that helped him win the championship.
In 2004 he switched to the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup and finished the season with a win in seventh place overall. In 2005 he started for Witmeur KTR as a team-mate of Tristan Gommendy in the World Series by Renault . While his team-mate finished fourth with a win, van Lagen finished ninth overall with a second place as the best result. In 2006 van Lagen only took part in three racing weekends of the World Series by Renault for Comtec Racing and achieved 28th place in the overall classification. His main focus this season, however, was on the Mégane Trophy Eurocup , in which he won the championship title.
In 2007 the Dutchman again took part in three racing weekends in the World Series by Renault for various teams and was again 28th in the championship. He also started six races in the Porsche Supercup and finished 14th overall. In 2008 he took part in the entire season in the Porsche Supercup and decided one race for himself. In the overall ranking, he reached seventh place. He also made his debut in the World Touring Car Championship for Russian Bears Motorsport in the 2008 season . With the defeated Lada 110 , however, he was not competitive and remained without points.
In 2009 van Lagen stayed in the World Touring Car Championship. His situation only improved when his now factory-supported team made the new Lada Priora available to him in the last third of the season . In Oschersleben , van Lagen found himself in a promising position for World Championship points for the first time, but in the last corner he was pushed into the gravel trap by Nicola Larini in fifth place . When van Lagen was in the points again in Okayama , a technical defect prevented his first points. So van Lagen ended the season again with no points. In the spring of 2010, Lada withdrew its works involvement in the World Touring Car Championship without prior notice, although van Lagen already had a contract for the coming season. As a result, he had to leave the World Touring Car Championship and received a new cockpit in the Porsche Supercup for the 2010 season . Van Lagen finished the season with a second place as the best result in fourth place overall. He also made his Superleague Formula debut in the 2010 Superleague Formula season and took part in a racing weekend.
For the premiere on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, Jaap van Lagen got a contract for this race from the Lada works team in the 2015 World Touring Car Championship. He replaced his former British team-mate James Thompson, who was not allowed to start for health reasons. While he finished eleventh just behind the German Sabine Schmitz in the first run, he was able to move up from last place to 9th in the second run. These were also his first points in the WTCC. Then he started the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring for the Black Falcon in the Mercedes SLS GT3.
After the weekend at the Nürburgring, the Lada team signed him up for the race on the Moscow Raceway.
