Mark Dismore
Mark Dismore (born October 12, 1956 in Greenfield ) is a former American racing driver and entrepreneur.
Racing career
Mark Dismore's career began in karting in 1973 when he won the overall standings of the Super Nationals Open Light Series at the age of 17 . His single posto career began in the 1980s . He drove in the US Formula Super Vau racing series and contested his first race in the CART series in 1989 . He made his debut at the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington , where he crossed the finish line in 24th (race winner was Teo Fabi in a Porsche 2708 CART ). That same year, he was third overall in the Pacific Division of the Atlantic Championship . In 1990 he was the overall winner of this championship.
In 1991 he went to the start on a Penske PC-17 for Arciero Racing in the CART series, where his career was abruptly interrupted in qualifying training for the Indianapolis 500 mile race . At the exit of Turn 4 the Penske crashed into the boundary wall. In the second impact of the rotating car, the front was so badly damaged that the driver's legs protruded unprotected from the vehicle. Dinsmore suffered severe neck injuries and multiple broken legs. After a year of recovery, the neck injuries hindered him in the following years. For years he was barely able to start in a monoposto because of the extreme centrifugal forces that occur especially in oval races .
The absence of the monoposto led to success in sports car racing . 1993 he won together with Rocky Moran and PJ Jones on one of Dan Gurney reported Eagle MkIII the 24 Hours of Daytona . He was also at the start in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring . At Le Mans in 1996 he finished tenth overall with Price Cobb and Shawn Hendricks in the Chrysler Viper GTS-R . At Sebring, the best placement was 16th overall in 1995 .
In 1996 he returned to monoposto racing via the Indy Racing League . Dismore drove in the series until 2002 . He had his most successful season in 1999 when he won the championship run at Texas Motor Speedway and finished third overall behind Greg Ray and Kenny Bräck . He was entered in the Indianapolis 500 mile race nine times. He had his best starting position in 1999 when he finished fifth (in the race he reached 16th place). In 2000 he started the race in eleventh place and crossed the finish line in this position. It was his best result in Indianapolis, where Juan Pablo Montoya won for Chip Ganassi Racing that year .
Entrepreneur
After the end of his active career with the end of the 2002 season, Mark Dismore returned to his karting roots. He founded a karting school in New Castle and a distribution company in his hometown of Greenfield. International races were held regularly on the kart track, including the Dan Wheldon Cup , a 200-mile kart race in recognition of Dan Wheldon , who died in an accident in 2011 and in which active IndyCar drivers took part. At his karting events, Dismore was again at the start as a driver.
