The Bundesgymnasium, Bundesrealgymnasium and Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium in Hartberg is the largest general education secondary school in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district .

General

The Bundesgymnasium, Bundesrealgymnasium and Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium is one of four schools in the Federal School Center. The federal school center is located in the southern part of the urban area in Hartberg. The school is attended by 903 students who are taught by 100 teachers (data status: school year 2018/19)

  • Founded in 1964/65 as a branch of the music and pedagogical federal high school in Graz-Hasnerplatz

Lower level

In the lower level, computer science is taught as a compulsory subject from year 1. There is a choice between sporting, linguistic or musically-creative promotion of talents and interests. From the third grade onwards, you can choose between the Gymnasium and the Realgymnasium. French, Spanish, Italian or Latin can be chosen as an additional language in the grammar school. The linguistic focus can be continued in the upper level (high school long form). In the Realgymnasium there are increased classes in the field of natural sciences (laboratory classes from chemistry and biology), mathematics, geometric drawing , computer science and handicrafts.

Upper school

Students can choose to specialize in French or Latin as well as lessons in Italian or Spanish. English is taught as the working language in general educational subjects. There is a "European lesson" as a specialization.

  • Realgymnasium with computer science; Focus on descriptive geometry with the option of computer science or a scientific laboratory

In the 5th and 6th grades there are 3 hours of computer science lessons per week, in the 7th and 8th grade the students receive 3rd hours per week of instruction in descriptive geometry (including applied CAD lessons on the PC). For the 7th and 8th grades, the students have the option of receiving 2 hours of computer science lessons or 2 hours of laboratory lessons (natural science laboratory PH, CH, BU).

In the 5th and 6th grades there are 3 hours of computer science lessons per week, in the 7th and 8th grades the students receive in-depth lessons from physics, chemistry and biology. For the 7th and 8th grades, the students have the option of receiving 2 hours of computer science lessons or 2 hours of laboratory lessons (natural science laboratory PH, CH, BU).

From the 5th to the 8th grade, the students receive two hours of instrumental or vocal lessons each week. In addition, the students have to take modules from harmony teachers, rhythmics, sound engineering, ear training, stylistics and vocal technique.

  • Upper secondary school with artistic design and handicraft training

From the 5th to the 8th grade, the pupils receive a total of 9 hours of lessons per week in art education and 8 hours per week in lessons in art and craft education.

  • Upper secondary school taking into account the athletic education

The students choose a branch (alpine skiing, soccer, athletics, tennis or volleyball) and have the opportunity to complete a state-recognized trainer training (instructor Fit Jugend) in their branch. In the soccer division, the students complete the youth soccer coaching exam. The skiing group can be certified as a state ski instructor candidate and the D-trainer. The trainer training for tennis and volleyball qualifies the students as junior trainers.

  • Scientific laboratory

Since the 2005/2006 school year there has been a science laboratory (NWL) from chemistry and biology in the lower level of the Realgymnasium. Students work practically in the laboratory for 2 hours a week. In the Realgymnasium, the laboratory continues in the subjects of physics, chemistry and biology in the 7th and 8th grade.

  • eLSA school / eEducation EXPERT.PLUS.SCHULE:

At the Hartberg grammar school, e-learning is tested in almost all subjects in the lower grades. The grammar school has been an eLSA (= eLearning in everyday school life) model school since 2005 .

The grammar school has been an eLSA-certified school since April 2013. The high school has been an eEducation EXPERT.SCHULE since 2016. In April 2020, the Hartberg high school was certified for eEducation EXPERT.PLUS.SCHULE.

robotics

Robotics has been taught at the grammar school since the 2007/08 school year. In the lower level, the students get a taste of robotics as part of computer science lessons. Lego Mindstorms robots are programmed. In the upper school, robotics is taught in the Realgymnasium. The aim is to promote technical interest and prepare for a technical degree. A robot zoo of 10 Lego robots and 3 other robots is currently available for deepening. The robots are also programmed in JAVA and C #. In March 2020, the first students across Austria acquired the EDLRIS robotics certificate.

Certificates

On a voluntary basis, students can acquire the First Cambridge Certificate in English , the ECDL and the business license from the Chamber of Commerce (as the basis for a business registration after the school leaving examination). The Hartberg grammar school was awarded the MINT seal of approval by the Federal Ministry on May 2, 2017.

In addition, students have been able to receive Microsoft Office Specialist certification since the 2018/19 school year. Since the 2019/20 school year, students have been able to acquire the EDLRIS Robotics Basis, EDLRIS Robotics Advanced and EDLRIS Artificial Intelligence Basis certificates.

Athletic performance

School year 2006/07: The soccer team won the state championship in high school soccer to Hartberg. The athletics team reached 4th place in the federal championship. The tennis team reached 3rd place in the state tennis school cup championship. The table tennis team reached the 6th place at the federal championships in school table tennis. The lower school league team won the Styrian championship title and reached 8th place in the national championships. The school's volleyball student league teams won the national championship title for both boys (upper and lower grades) and girls (upper grades) in the 2011/12 season. Both upper-level teams are also national school league champions.

Associations close to the school

The sport and culture association Hartberg (Spoku) supports the pupils at events and organizes various courses, training courses and lectures. If necessary, the parents' association of the Hartberg grammar school helps students to finance school events (ski courses, language trips) and is involved in various school events (school kick-off party, musical evenings, etc.)
