Career

Eric Godard began his career as a hockey player with the Lethbridge Hurricanes , for which he was active in the Western Hockey League from 1997 to 2000 . During this time he was signed as a free agent by the Florida Panthers on September 24, 1999 , as he had never been drafted .

After one season each in the American Hockey League with the Louisville Panthers and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , the Panthers gave him to their league rivals New York Islanders in the summer of 2002 , for whom he was on the ice until 2006. The attacker then played for two seasons for the Calgary Flames before signing with the Pittsburgh Penguins before the 2008-09 season , with whom he won the Stanley Cup for the first time in his career that season . His contract with the Penguins ran until the end of the 2010/11 season .

In July 2011 he signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars as a free agent . There he was used in the 2011/12 season only for the Texas Stars farm team in the AHL. In June 2012, the Stars paid Godard for the remaining year of his contract, after which Godard became a free agent again. After he couldn't find a new employer through the lockout , the 32-year-old announced the end of his active career in November 2012.

Between the summer of 2013 and summer of 2015, Godard worked for one year as an assistant coach with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and Vernon Vipers in the British Columbia Hockey League .
