Katsutomo Kaneishi ( Japanese 金石 勝 智 , Kaneishi Katsutomo ; born November 21, 1968 in Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese racing car driver .

Career

Kaneishi began his racing career in 1989 in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship . On a Ralt RT33 , he finished fifth in the championship with 18 points at the end of the year. Although he competed in races for the Japanese Formula 3000 championship in 1990 , he stayed in Formula 3 and was second in the championship in 1991 after two victories this season.

From 1992 he drove regularly in the Japanese Touring Car Championship and in 1998 switched to the Super GT . For years he was always able to place himself in the top field in the popular GT championship. In 2003 he was third overall. He was also able to celebrate racing victories in Formula Nippon and in 2000 he clinched a class win on a Honda NSX at the 1000 km race in Suzuka .

The Japanese became famous in Germany in 2003 when he entered the DTM for Persson Motorsport . With the Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM , however, he could not prevail against his competitors and left the series at the end of the season without a countable result.

In 2004 he made his debut for Racing for Holland at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and after his interlude in the DTM he is back in the Japanese GT championship.
