history

The earliest mention of the place is in 1100 under the name Elkerishuson . Almost 40 years later the place traded under the name of Haldrickhusen when goods were donated to the Bursfelde monastery at this point . From the late 12th century the current place name gradually emerged. In the eastern end of the village there was a place surrounded by deep walls, which was also called on the wall . Since a few pieces of the wall were found there, it can be assumed that a bower once stood at this point . There is no news about a possible castle, but the noble von Elkershausen family previously existed in the village , so this house can be assumed to be their headquarters.

On January 1, 1973 Elkershausen was incorporated into the Friedland community.
