Karl Ludwig Nißler

Karl Ludwig Nißler (born  February 13, 1908 in Elkershausen ; †  August 10, 1987 in Magdeburg ) was a German pediatrician . From 1954 to 1973 he worked as a professor of paediatrics at the Medical Academy Magdeburg and was rector of the university from 1958 to 1962.

Life

Karl Nißler was 1908 in Elkershausen born and attained 1927 in Höchst am Main , the High School . He then studied medicine at the University of Frankfurt . After the state examination in 1932 , he received his doctorate in the same year. He completed his compulsory assistant at the Radiation Institute in Frankfurt / Main, then from 1934 he worked as a doctor in Berlin-Lichtenberg and for a short time as a ship's doctor . During the time of National Socialism he was a member of the SA and resigned from the NSDAP in 1937. In 1938 he became senior physician at the children's clinic at the University of Halle . A year later he took over the management of the nurses' school there, and a short time later he became chief physician of the children's clinic at the St. Barbara Hospital in Halle .

After the end of the Second World War he was acting director of the University Children's Hospital in Halle from 1946. Two years later he was at the University of Halle habilitated and appointed professor 1,950th In 1953, he was appointed director of the municipal children's hospital in Magdeburg . When the Medical Academy Magdeburg (MAM) was founded in September 1954, he was a member of the university's senate. He became full professor of paediatrics at the academy and worked from 1954 to 1958 as its prorector and then until 1962 as rector. Under his leadership, several preclinical institutes and other clinics were founded at MAM, which in contrast to the medical academies in Dresden and Erfurt , enabled preclinical studies to be carried out at the Magdeburg University from 1960, thus providing full training for doctors. In 1973 he retired . He died in Magdeburg in 1987.

Karl Nißler was several times chairman of the Society for Pediatrics of the GDR and in 1959 received the honorary title of " Honored Doctor of the People ". The “Karl Nißler” sponsorship association at the Magdeburg University Children's Hospital has been named after him to this day.
