Hasso Essbach

Hasso Eßbach (born March  9, 1909 Kemnitz / Vogtland ; †  November 13, 1992 in Burg near Magdeburg ) was a German doctor and pathologist . From 1954 to 1974 he held the chair for pathology at the Medical Academy Magdeburg and from 1954 to 1958 as its founding rector.

Life

Hasso Eßbach was 1909 in Kemnitz / Vogtland born and laid in 1930 in Plauen , the High School from. From 1930 to 1935 he studied medicine at the University of Leipzig , which he completed with a doctorate in 1936 . He joined the NSDAP and the National Socialist German Medical Association . After his practical year at the surgical university clinic in Leipzig, he worked from 1937 as an assistant doctor at the Pathological-Bacteriological Institute of the St. Georg Hospital in Leipzig in order to train as a pathologist . In 1939 he moved to the University Department of Pathology, four years later, he was with a thesis on meningiomas habilitation . He then worked at the University of Leipzig in the field of research and from 1944 as a lecturer and from 1951 as a professor with a teaching assignment.

In 1952 Hasso Eßbach became director of the Institute for Pathology at the Gustav-Ricker-Hospital in Magdeburg's Sudenburg district and in the same year also medical director of the clinic. In this position he campaigned for the establishment of a medical college in Magdeburg. With the opening of the Medical Academy Magdeburg (MAM) in September 1954, he took over the office of the founding rector and held it until 1958, after which he worked until 1967 as prorector for research. He held the chair for pathology at MAM from 1954 until his retirement in 1974; In addition, he was also professor of pathological anatomy at the Academy for Medical Training of the GDR in Berlin-Lichtenberg . He died in 1992 in Burg near Magdeburg .

Scientific work

In addition to neuropathology, the focus of Hasso Eßbach's work in research and teaching was pediatric pathology. In 1961 he published the first German-language standard work in this field, "Paidopathologie".

Awards

Hasso Eßbach was a full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences from 1965 and received the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver in 1960 , the Rudolf Virchow Prize in 1961 and an honorary doctorate from the Magdeburg Medical Academy in October 1973 .
