Ryō Michigami ( Japanese 道上 龍 , Michigami Ryō ; born March 1, 1973 in Nara Prefecture ) is a Japanese racing car driver .

Career

Ryo Michigami came to the Japanese Formula 3 Championship through karting in 1993 and competed in 20 championship races in three years, of which he won one. In 1997 he got into Formula Nippon and drove parallel to the Japanese Touring Car Championship on a Honda Accord .

After three difficult years in the best Japanese monoposto series, Michigami switched to sports cars in 2000, where he secured the title of Japanese GT champion . In the Suzuka 1000 km race , he drove a Honda NSX , but was unable to place in the race. In 2002 he finished this race in second overall.

Until 2004 he drove regularly in Formula Nippon as well as in the Super GT championship, with the focus on sports cars where he was able to celebrate victories again and again. In 2006 he was third in the Super GT 500 and will also drive in this racing series in 2009.

In 2004 and 2005 he took part as a driver in the Le Mans 24-hour race . In 2004 he fell out early - with Hiroki Katō and Ryō Fukuda as partners. Together with his compatriots Seiji Ara and Katsutomo Kaneishi , he again drove a 2005 Dome S101 , but had to give up prematurely with gearbox damage, as in the previous year.
