Donington 500km race in 1992
The 1992 Donington 500 km race , also known as the Triton Showers Trophy, SWC, Donington Park , took place on July 19 at the Donington Park Circuit and was the fourth round of the World Sports Car Championship that year.
The race
As with the three previous World Championship races, the race in Donington Park only had a small field of starters. The fastest training time was achieved by Derek Warwick in a Peugeot Evo 1 . However, the race was extremely exciting and had one of the tightest finishings in the history of sports car racing. At the finish the two Peugeots of Mauro Baldi / Philippe Alliot and Derek Warwick / Yannick Dalmas were separated by only 0.5 seconds after 3 hours of driving time. The third-placed Toyota TS010 driven by Geoff Lees and David Brabham was only 28 seconds behind the winners at the end of the race.
