Rudolf Richard Hasse (born May 30, 1906 in Mittweida ; † August 12, 1942 in Makejewka near Stalino ) was a German motorcycle and automobile racing driver .

Career

Like many other racing drivers, Rudolf Hasse began with motorcycle races. For example, in May 1927 he won the 350 cm³ run on Schüttoff at the I. Badberg Viereck race on the Badberg Viereck in Hohenstein-Ernstthal , today's Sachsenring .

1929 changed Hasse on four wheels and was an excellent long-distance drivers could travel the long distances without a break. His trademarks were the white cap and the large goggles behind which he had to put his own glasses.

In 1936 he joined Auto Union , for which he celebrated his greatest success by winning the Belgian Grand Prix in 1937 .

During the Second World War he initially worked in troop support  - mainly in the East: He gave film lectures on the car races of the 1930s. He then served as a graduate of the Technical Center Mittweida as a technical special leader in the rank of officer in the armored forces in the war against the Soviet Union used. At the age of only 36 he fell seriously ill with Asian dysentery and died in a hospital in Makejewka near Stalino on the Eastern Front , where he was buried. The cemetery was later destroyed and no longer exists today.

In his hometown Mittweida, a memorial in the New Cemetery commemorates this son of the city.
