1 Tyrrell was excluded from the world championship at the beginning of October 1984 for violating the regulations; The trigger was forbidden water tanks that were filled after each Grand Prix and in this way caused an underweight during the races.
News in brief Formula 1
- At the end of the season, the entire Tyrrell team with drivers Martin Brundle , Stefan Bellof , Stefan Johansson and Mike Thackwell was disqualified because the weight of the cars in the race violated the regulations. Tyrrell had installed water cooling for the brakes, the lines of which were filled with water when they were accepted, but were empty during the race. Shortly before the end of the race, water ballast mixed with lead balls was filled in to achieve the minimum weight again.
- Formula 1 newbies Ayrton Senna and Stefan Bellof finished second and third in the Monaco Rain GP . However, Bellof's result was not counted due to the disqualification of his Tyrrell team.
- In Dallas , a Honda engine won for the first time in the "modern era" of Formula 1 .
- Niki Lauda became world champion for the third time.
- With half a point ahead of Alain Prost , it is the closest World Cup decision to date. In addition, he is only the second world champion to date to have won the title without having achieved pole position once - only Denis Hulme achieved this in the 1967 Formula 1 season before him .
- If the point system that has been used since 2010 had already existed, Alain Prost would have become world champion with 213.5 points ahead of Niki Lauda 209.
- Zakspeed presented its first Formula 1 car.
