The Brabham BT53 is a Formula 1 racing car of the team Brabham Racing Organization , which in the 1984 season was used. Nelson Piquet , Teo Fabi , Corrado Fabi and Manfred Winkelhock drove the car developed by Gordon Murray . Nelson Piquet won two races with the Brabham BT53.

technology

The arrow shape of the car was adopted from its predecessor for the BT53. The side pods were pulled a little forward and made more angular. For quick tire changes, an on-board four-point jack system was installed, as well as brake discs reinforced with carbon fibers for shorter braking distances and a six-speed transmission from Hewland. The engine weighed 175 kilograms and had four cylinders in line with a displacement of 1499 cc. With a boost pressure of 3.2 bar in the race, the BMW engine developed 626 kW, which corresponds to 850 hp.

Sponsors and livery

The paintwork of the car was dark blue and white like the Brabham BT52 from last year. Team boss Bernie Ecclestone had also signed contracts with Parmalat and Fila for the 1984 season. With Michelin , Santal and Castrol , these partners were also retained.

The 1984 season

Too much engine and loader damage made it impossible for Nelson Piquet to defend his title . Although he finished in the top three four times and won in Canada and the GP in Detroit , apart from a second, third and sixth place, he was always out. Teammate Teo Fabi secured nine points for the Brabham team, while Corrado Fabi and Manfred Winkelhock received nothing. At the end of the season, the Brabham team finished fourth in the Constructors' Championship with 38 points.
