Air under the soles
The via ferrata Luft unter den Soles is located in the municipality of Radenthein , Spittal an der Drau district , Carinthia , Austria and is rated as very difficult ( D / E ).
The via ferrata is located on the Breitwand ("Bratwand") in the village of Döbriach on Lake Millstatt (620 m). It is part of the Breitwand climbing garden and was built in February 2001 by soldiers from the Spittaler JgB 26 as a joint project with the Radenthein section of the OeAV . You can get there from Spittal an der Drau via Seeboden and Millstatt following the north shore of Lake Millstatt , or from Villach through the valley . Parking is available at public buildings in Döbriach.
After a short walk over a forest path and a serpentine ascent, following the signs, you reach the entry area at the foot of the wall (770 m). After a very difficult entry point, it goes over steep passages and short flat sections to the exit (890 m) at the flagpole. Exposed traverses, few natural resting options, an overhang and long-lasting difficulties in the final part require good climbing technique and strength in the arms. Before the final passage there is a small resting area with a bench and a “wall book”.
The descent takes place over the western side of the wall in partly very steep, insured and overgrown terrain back to the serpentine ascent.
