François Hesnault (born December 30, 1956 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) is a former French racing driver. He contested 19 Formula 1 races, but could not achieve any championship points.
Hesnault's career in professional motorsport began in the French Formula 3 Championship , where he finished third in the overall standings in 1982 and second in 1983.
After these successes, he entered Formula 1 at the French Ligier racing team in 1984 , where he was clearly surpassed by his team-mate Andrea de Cesaris . Despite this poor performance, he managed to get a driver's seat in the British Brabham team alongside world champion Nelson Piquet the following year . After disappointing performances, he was replaced by Marc Surer after four races . Hesnault contested his last world championship run in the same year at the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring for Renault , where he was the first driver in a Formula 1 race with an onboard camera after an accident in 1962 during a training attempt at the same location caused. It was also the last time that a racing team with three drivers started. After this race, Hesnault suffered a serious accident, whereupon he withdrew from active racing.
