Ship launch from Borgholm
The north-east-south-west oriented ship setting of Borgholm is a Bronze Age grave complex near the city of Borgholm on the Swedish Baltic island of Öland . The 16 × 4 m large ship setting ( Swedish skeppssättning ) consisting of 19 stones is located immediately west of the road 136 leading from Borgholm towards Köpingsvik . The forward stem of the ship setting, which consists of erected field stones, faces south. The special thing about this ship placement is the straight "stern". At the beginning of the 20th century, the bones of six people were found in a burial mound near the ship.
When ships were set, the erected stones were arranged in the shape of a ship. The Borgholm facility is one of around 30 similar facilities on Öland. The cemetery of Gettlinge or Noah's Ark on Karums Alvar is better known .
