Andrea Iannone (born August 9, 1989 in Vasto ) is an Italian motorcycle racer . He starts in the MotoGP class of the motorcycle world championship .

Career

Iannone started after his first pocket bike experience in the Italian and Spanish motorcycle championship before entering the motorcycle world championship in 2005 . In the 2009 season he won three races and finished seventh overall. In 2010 Iannone was promoted to the Moto2 class and was followed by three more Grand Prix victories. In the following two years, the Italian attracted attention with three or two GP successes. From 2010 to 2012 , he finished third at the end of the season.

MotoGP class

Already in 2011 Iannone was allowed to test the MotoGP- Pramac - Ducati from Loris Capirossi in Mugello . For the 2013 season he was promoted to the premier class and received a contract from Ducati. Until the 2014 season he drove with the Pramac Racing satellite team . In 2015 , the Italian moved to Ducati Corse . In the first race of the season in Qatar in Losail , he took his first podium finish in the MotoGP class with third place. His first pole position in this category was the sixth race of the season in Mugello. At the end of the year he was fifth in the world championship. In 2016 he clinched his first victory in the premier class at the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring .

Doping ban 2019

At the Malaysia Grand Prix in Sepang on November 3, 2019, the 30-year-old tested positive for the steroid nandrolone and in December was banned from the World Motorcycle Federation (FIM) for doping. The FIM International Disciplinary Court (CDI) set the blocking length to 18 months until June 16, 2021. Iannone sees himself innocent and wants to take action against the lock. He attributes the positive doping tests to contaminated meat that he unknowingly consumed on a trip to Asia.
