Career
Randy De Puniet began his career in the French motorcycle championship, which he won in 1998 in the 125 cc class. That year he made his debut as a wildcard driver at the French Grand Prix, also in the 125cc class of the World Championship.
In the following season, 1999 , De Puniet started in the Team Scrab Competition on Aprilia permanently in the World Championship. He reached 26 points and finished 18th in the overall ranking. Also in the following season he finished an inconspicuous 17th place in the World Championship.
For the 2001 season he then switched to the 250 cc class and again drove an Aprilia for the Equipe de France team with rather inconspicuous results. In 2002 De Puniet moved to the Campetella team, where he was able to draw attention for the first time. He took two third places and was ninth in the World Cup.
In 2003 , the Frenchman then started on an Aprilia factory machine belonging to Lucio Cecchinello's Safilo Oxydo LCR team . There he made the breakthrough. He celebrated his first Grand Prix victory at the Grand Prix of Catalonia in Barcelona , which was followed by two more this season. With a total of nine podium finishes, he was fourth overall with 208 points. In 2004 , De Puniet was even able to climb to third place in the World Cup, and in the 2005 season he finished eighth overall in Jorge Martínez's Aspar team .
Even so, De Puniet was signed for 2006 by Kawasaki for the MotoGP class. With the inferior motorcycle he showed solid performance and came in 16th place in the World Championship with 37 points. Also in 2007 De Puniet competed in the Kawasaki Racing Team in the MotoGP class. He only crossed the finish line ten times in 18 races and caused several accidents, including a collision at the start in San Marino , which forced other drivers besides himself to give up. Nonetheless, De Puniet consistently achieved positions in the top ten in the races in which he crossed the finish line, including fifth place in Catalonia, which he achieved with great pain due to a previous fall. At the Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi , he even came second and thus achieved his first podium finish in the premier class . With 108 points, De Puniet reached eleventh place in the World Championship.
For the 2008 season Randy De Puniet left Kawasaki and is now starting again for Lucio Cecchinello's LCR team on a Honda .
