Héctor Faubel Rojí (born August 10, 1983 in Liria ) is a former Spanish motorcycle racer .

Career

Héctor Faubel started riding motorcycles at the age of ten, and in 1993 he won a regional minibike championship in Spain. In 1997 he switched to road racing and took part in the Spanish 125 cc championship, which he finished in fifth. The following year he won the Spanish Aprilia 125cc Cup. Faubel competed in the Spanish motorcycle championship until 2002 and won the title there in the 250 cc class on Aprilia in 2002.

Héctor Faubel made his debut in the motorcycle world championship as a wildcard driver at the Grand Prix van Spain 2000 in the 125 cc class on an Aprilia. As a result, he started in the World Cup races held in Spain until 2001 , but was unable to get into the points.

For the 2002 season, Héctor Faubel changed permanently to the motorcycle world championship, where he started rather inconspicuously for the Aspar team of four-time world champion Jorge Martínez until 2004 .

In 2005 Faubel moved within the team to the 125 cc class, where he made his breakthrough. In his second 125cc race, the Grand Prix of Portugal , he achieved his first podium finish with second place and finished the season ninth in the overall standings.

In 2006 he achieved his first Grand Prix victory at the Turkish Grand Prix . After another victory at races in Valencia and a total of five podium finishes, Faubel was third in the 125 cc World Championship at the end of the season, behind his compatriot and teammate Álvaro Bautista and the Finnish KTM driver Mika Kallio .

In the 2007 season , Héctor Faubel fought with Gábor Talmácsi , one of his teammates, until the last race for the world championship crown. At the last race of the season in Valencia, the two were far ahead of the rest of the field and were fighting for victory. Faubel tried for a long time to block the Hungarian with sometimes unfair means so that the following drivers could catch up with the duo and thus deprive Talmácsi of valuable World Championship points, but this did not succeed. Héctor Faubel won the race, but Gábor Talmácsi secured the title with a five point lead by finishing second.

In 2008 Faubel drove again in the 250 cm³ class; he continued to compete on an Aprilia, this time again in the Aspar team. He finished 14th overall at the end of the season, while teammate Álvaro Bautista had become vice world champion. In 2009 he achieved the only podium finish in this class at the French Grand Prix , now on a Honda, as second behind Marco Simoncelli . It finished the season in ninth place.

In 2010 the class became the Moto2 category and Faubel switched to Marc VDS Racing, where he rode on Suter .

For 2011 he did not get a new contract and returned to Aspar in the 125 cc class. In the end, with a win in Germany (he had crossed the finish line at the same time as Johann Zarco , Faubel had set the fastest lap), he finished fifth in the World Championship classification.

In 2012 , the 125 cc became the Moto3 class. He did not reach a podium that year; fifth place in the last race in Valencia was his best result. He finished the season in 16 overall. from.

Since the maximum age in this class is 30 years, he was no longer allowed to compete in 2013 . Since he could not find a place in Moto2, he ended his career.
