Marcos Ramírez Fernández (born December 16, 1997 in Conil de la Frontera ) is a Spanish motorcycle racer .
Career
Ramírez began his international career in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup , in which he contested two full seasons in 2012 and 2013 and took eight podiums, but no victory.
In 2014 Ramírez made his Moto3 debut as a wildcard starter on a KTM from Calvo Team Laglisse at the Spanish Grand Prix . He turned 21.
In 2015 , Ramírez contested seven of the twelve races of the season of the Supersport World Championship for Kawasaki ( Catbike / exit ), Yamaha ( Autos Arroyo Pastrana Racing Team ) and Honda ( Team Lorini ) and was World Cup 21. with twelve points.
In 2016 Ramírez returned to Moto3 and replaced Danny Webb at Platinum Bay Real Estate for the remainder of the season from the Austrian Grand Prix . He drove a Mahindra there and collected his first World Championship points with a seventh place at the Australian Grand Prix and a sixth at the Malaysian Grand Prix . In the end he was World Cup 26. with 19 points.
In 2017 Ramírez stayed in the team and became a regular driver for the first time. As in the previous year, his team mate was Darryn Binder , the younger brother of the reigning world champion Brad Binder . The team also switched to a KTM chassis. Ramírez finished third in Germany and Valencia on two podiums and finished the season in eighth place. He had clearly prevailed against Binder with 123 to 35 points. Ramírez was also the best non- Honda driver in the final standings , had picked up two of the six KTM podiums of the season and was also the only non-Honda driver to have stood on the podium more than once.
In 2018, Ramírez remained in Moto3 in the same team, which from now on called itself Bester Capital Dubai due to the new sponsor . His new teammate was the rookie Jaume Masiá . Ramírez again took two third places, this time at the Spanish and French Grand Prix . In both cases he was part of a KTM triple victory, in Spain behind Philipp Öttl and Marco Bezzecchi , in France behind Albert Arenas and Andrea Migno . In addition, he had originally finished fourth in both races, but had benefited twice from another driver's penalty transfer or time penalty. As tenth in the World Cup, he fell two places compared to the previous year. He won the team-internal duel against Masiá with 101 to 76 points.
In 2019 Ramírez switched to Leopard Racing and thus to Honda for the first time , as the successor to Enea Bastianini . His teammate was Lorenzo Dalla Porta . At the Grand Prix of Catalonia Ramírez won a world championship run for the first time, a second victory followed at the Grand Prix of Great Britain . In the end Ramírez, while Dalla Porta had become world champion, finished third with 183 points.
In 2020 , Ramírez will be promoted to the Moto2 category and will drive a Kalex for American Racing alongside Joe Roberts . At his debut, the Grand Prix of Qatar , where he started the race from 24th place, he had to give up prematurely after falling on the third lap. In the second race he came in 23rd and last but not least his first Moto2 finish. One race later he scored his first point in 15th place.
