The moths have a wingspan of 16 to 18 millimeters. The caterpillars of Celypha lacunana reach a length of about 15 millimeters and are brown to dark brown in color. They are very variable and can be confused with many other species.

Flight and caterpillar times

Celypha lacunana forms two overlapping generations per year, which fly from mid-May to July and from August to September. The abundance maximum is in June. The caterpillars can be found from April to September.
