Williams grew up near Oulton Park and came into contact with racing at an early age. He started riding a motorcycle when he was 12 years old. He denied his career exclusively on Yamaha . In the FIM - Motorcycle World Championship he stepped up to the 500cc class, but came with a tenth place overall in 1974 never out. In the smaller displacement classes of the road and endurance races of the 1970s and early 1980s, it was able to assert itself much more. In addition to victories on long distances such as the street circuit in Barcelona or the 24 Hours of Spa , he was successful in the Isle of Man TT and became world champion in Formula II in 1980 . In 1981 he retired from active racing. Only as a radio announcer during the Tourist Trophy did he remain involved in motorcycle racing. Since 2013 he has been taking part again as an active driver in historical racing series (English Classics) and vetarian races.
