The VFR 750 R is a sports motorcycle from the Japanese vehicle manufacturer Honda , which was produced from 1987 to 1992 in Hamamatsu . From the 1994 season , the successor model, the Honda RVF 750 RC 45, was used.

history

The VFR 750 R with the factory code RC 30 was a direct offshoot of the Honda RVF factory racers from the FIM Endurance World Championship and one of the first series motorcycles specially developed for racing. This was reflected in both the materials selected and the price: when it was launched in 1988, it was roughly twice as expensive as most other motorcycles of the year. In the Hamamatsu factory , approx. 3000 pieces were individually produced by a special team. Most of them were used on the racetrack , 20 years later only about 25% were preserved. Thanks to their reliability, Honda won the Superbike World Championship straight away and dominated the races for the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man for years .

From the RC 30 there was a version with a 400 cc engine, the Honda VFR 400 R .

technology

engine

The water-cooled 748 cm³ 90-degree V-four-cylinder engine had four overhead camshafts that were driven by two centrally arranged gear cascades with four gear wheels each. The camshafts with roller bearings opened the valves via bucket tappets, the shafts of which were only 4.5 millimeters in diameter. Many components in the engine were derived from racing. These included, for example, the titanium connecting rods and the forged pistons with only 2 piston rings. The mixture was formed using 4 Keihin constant pressure carburetors, each 35.3 mm in diameter.

landing gear

The bridge frame consisted of extruded aluminum profiles with the steering head and swing arm mounts made of die-cast. The front wheel was suspended from a 43 mm telescopic fork, which had a quick release mechanism for the front axle. The rear wheel was lavishly guided with a single-sided swing arm made of cast aluminum. Braking torque support was integrated into the swing arm, which reduced the rear wheel bump when braking. The fork and strut were made by Showa and were fully adjustable.
