All-rounder (motorcycle)

The trade press describes a street motorcycle as an all-rounder , which largely combines the properties of a touring motorcycle and a sports motorcycle . A motorcycle that reliably masters everyday use and yet can also convey driving pleasure. The following are to be mentioned in detail:

  • A minimum of touring suitability, ie ergonomically tolerable pillion seat and easy loading option
  • a robust motor that develops sufficient torque in all speed ranges if possible
  • possibly also an engine suitable for occasional use on the racetrack, with the appropriate chassis and brakes
  • a handy, agile chassis and geometry design for use on (narrow) country roads
  • a minimum of controllability even on loose ground

The classification of a motorcycle in this category is fluid, and not all criteria have to be met. Off-road suitability and use on the racetrack are usually mutually exclusive. A motorcycle is often referred to as an all-rounder because it cannot be clearly assigned to any other category. This is often the case with entry-level and mid-range models with a displacement of less than 1000 cm³. Manufacturers try to address a large target group here.
