The Kawasaki ZR-7 is a Motorcycle category naked bike of the Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki , which was sold from 1999 to 2004. Competitive models were the Suzuki GSF 600 , Yamaha Fazer and the Honda CB 600 F Hornet .

concept

Kawasaki stayed true to its legendary line of four-cylinder , air-cooled engines with the traditional 750 cubic centimeters . Due to its increased displacement, the ZR-7 still impresses today with its enormous performance compared to the competition. The concept worked. After its introduction, it quickly became the best-selling Kawasaki motorcycle in Germany.

However, the introduction of the strict Euro 3 standard ultimately led to the production of the ZR-7 being stopped in 2003. A renovation would only have been possible with considerable effort and was out of proportion to the already sharply declining sales figures. So the ZR-7 was replaced by its successor, the Kawasaki Z750 .

Nevertheless, even today she has a large fan base who appreciate her extremely loyal and reliable companion.

predecessor

The ZR-7 is a completely redesigned motorcycle that has only taken over the engine from its predecessor, the Zephyr 750 . However, this was technically significantly overhauled.

development

Changes to the engine compared to the Zephyr 750 included the introduction of the K-TRIC (Kawasaki Throttle Responsive Ignition Control) called ignition system. Depending on the throttle valve position and engine speed, it ensures an improved throttle response in the lower engine speeds by adjusting the optimum ignition point . Furthermore, the ZR-7 has been expanded to include a float chamber heater to improve cold start behavior and cold running. Additional nozzles built into the engine block provide cooling by spraying the pistons with oil from below. The oil pump was also provided with a larger trochoid. This has been enlarged from 16 mm to 20 mm in order to increase the oil pressure, as the oil nozzles under the pistons have been added. The timing chain tensioner was modified, a chain tensioner was integrated on the primary chain and modified tooth flank profiles in the gearbox found their way into the ZR-7. The engine paint changed from silver to black.

Finally, the exhaust system has also been redesigned. This is how the original 4-in-2 system became a 4-in-2-in-1 system.

Their driving behavior is now considered good-natured and therefore makes them easy to control even for beginners. It is also considered an inexpensive touring motorcycle.

Model years

Since the ZR-7 was a very well-engineered motorcycle from the start, Kawasaki had little reason to modify it.

Launch of the ZR-7

Colors: blue, red and gold

2001
