The VN 1600 is a motorcycle model series from the cruiser segment manufactured by Kawasaki between 2003 and 2008 . It belongs to the VN series that has been offered since 1986 and is the successor to the VN 1500.

Changes to the predecessor

The VN 1600 model series is a further development of the VN 1500 model series and replaced it with the market launch.

  • 5 mm longer stroke and the resulting increase in displacement by 82 cm³ to 1552 cm³
  • Fuel injection improvement
  • lower and longer
  • Double disc brake at the front (instead of a single disc brake of the VN 1500)
  • Cast wheels (instead of spoked wheels as with the VN 1500)
  • seamless tank
  • Ignition lock on the tank, whereby the key can be removed in the "on" position
  • external changes to the engine
  • Safety switch on the side stand (when a gear is engaged)
  • Tool kit in the lockable side cover

Model versions

Kawasaki marketed three different models.

VN 1600 Classic

The VN 1600 Classic forms the basic version of the model series.

VN 1600 Classic Tourer

The VN 1600 Classic Tourer largely corresponds to the VN 1600 Classic , but is characterized by a number of standard, additional equipment elements:

  • Crash bars front and rear
  • Windshield
  • Windlovers
  • Passenger backrest ( sissy bar )
  • lacquered hard shell side case

In addition, the VN 1600 Classic Tourer was delivered with a modified exhaust system that allows the necessary space for the side case.

VN 1600 mean streak

The VN 1600 Mean Streak is the sporty version of the model series. The main differences to the VN 1600 Classic are:

  • Power increase of the engine compared to the Classic: 54 kW (73 PS)
  • modified design of tank, fenders and handlebars
  • upside-down fork
  • 17 "rims
  • Relocation of the instruments to the handlebars
  • Tachometer
  • elevated seating position (700 mm)
