In motorcyclist jargon , the sissy bar refers to the (padded) backrest of the pillion seat of a motorcycle , which is sometimes found on choppers and cruisers . Literally translated, sissybar means "soft" or "stick".

On the one hand, the sissy bar offers the passenger comfortable support and, on the other hand, serves as a decoration for the motorcycle. In the eyes of many motorcyclists, it is a synonym for unnecessary accessories or chrome ballast.
