The Kawasaki ZX-12 R is a sports touring motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki , which was offered from 2000 to 2006.

technology

At the time of its market launch in 2000, the Kawasaki ZX-12 R, with a registered top speed of 308 km / h, was one of the fastest production motorcycles in the world and thus challenged the Suzuki Hayabusa 1300 , which was last considered the fastest mass-produced motorcycle and thus the Record held. Depending on the driver and tires, the Hayabusa ran between 308 km / h (manufacturer information) to 312 km / h (test). However, the top speed is limited to 298 km / h for models from 2001, in accordance with the voluntary self-restraint of the Japanese manufacturers and BMW. The 298 km / h model can be recognized externally by the speedometer scale, which only continues with graduation marks from 280 km / h.

The acceleration values are 0–100 km / h in 2.7 s (RamAir 2.4 s) and 0–200 km / h in 7.2 s (RamAir 7.0 s). The power-to-weight ratio is 1.37 kilograms per hp.

In 2002 the revised model came out, which was modified mainly in the chassis area as well as in the aerodynamics, fuel injection and throttle response. Among other things, 30 percent larger ram air openings should improve the air supply to the engine at top speed. Other changes concerned the headlights and the slightly higher windshield.

From 2005, radially screwed 4-piston calipers were introduced instead of the familiar 6-piston brake calipers. A new engine control unit and an immobilizer were also among the latest innovations in the last ZX-12R series.

2006 was the last sales year of the ZX-12 R, its indirect successor was the Kawasaki ZZR 1400 , which is sold on the US market as the ZX-14.
