Previous model Kawasaki W650

The Kawasaki W800 is an undisguised Retro - motorcycle of the Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki , the 2011 as a successor to W 650 came on the market. The naked bike is also available with various cockpit fairings. The bike is in North and South America and in Africa not sold. Sales in Europe ended for the time being in 2016 because the air-cooled engine did not meet the emissions standard applicable from 2017 and the ABS, which was also required from 2017, was not available. The W 800 has been available again with Euro 4, ABS and a slightly different design since 2019, with the vertical shaft motor still being the highlight.

origin

The design of the roadster is based heavily on English motorcycles from the 1960s, such as the BSA A7 or the Triumph Bonneville . The "W" in the model name refers to the W1, W2, W3 and W 650 models from Kawasaki, which were built from 1966 and were then based on English motorcycles.

properties

The Kawasaki W 800 has a closed double loop frame made of round steel tubing .

A rear swing arm with two spring struts and a telescopic fork with bellows at the front serve as the wheel suspension . The wire spoke wheels are 18 inches in diameter at the rear and 19 inches at the front.

A special feature is the high torque of the long-stroke engine , which is already available at low speeds, and the camshaft drive via a vertical shaft . The motorcycle runs on regular or premium gasoline from RON 91 to E10 , the fuel tank holds 14 liters. The chrome-plated exhaust manifolds are double-walled and therefore cannot tarnish . The two exhausts have a G-Kat and a secondary air system for afterburning the exhaust gases .

In proper style, the motorcycle is braked with a drum brake on the rear wheel, and a disc brake on the front wheel for safety . Since 2019 the motorcycle has an ABS and a rear disc brake.

In contrast to the previous model, the W 800 no longer has a kick starter ; Furthermore, it has intake manifold injection instead of a carburetor .

Models

In addition to the standard model, which is in British Racing Green and chrome , there is a special edition in black with golden anodized wheel rims.

In Japan there is also a model with dark orange instead of green paint, as well as a special edition with cardinal red rims and tank.

For all models there is the Cafe Style option with a hump seat and cockpit fairing.

criticism

“The large wheels (19 inches at the front, 18 at the rear) ensure stability, the narrow tires (100/90 front, 130/80 rear) ensure handling. It's nimble around the corners, right away you feel very comfortable on the Kawa. Once in motion, the footpegs make contact with the roadway relatively quickly. So you adapt the driving style to the comfortable chassis. This could do with a little more tightness. "
